Melanie Charlebois Stephens is the Director of Bowmanville Learning Centre and a Registered Psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience supporting children, youth, and families across educational, healthcare, and therapeutic settings.

As a result of working in a school system as a child and youth worker for over 10 years, Melanie is deeply familiar with the challenges faced both by students requiring additional support and by school systems striving to meet diverse and complex needs. She brings a compassionate, informed perspective to her leadership, grounded in firsthand experience collaborating within inclusive learning environments.

Melanie is passionate about ensuring every child is seen, valued, and given the opportunity to reach their full potential. She is committed to creating individualized learning experiences that provide students with the support they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

In addition to her leadership role, Melanie has extensive clinical training as a Certified Child Life Specialist and Child and Youth Counsellor, as well as experience as a psychometrist, contributing to psychological and psychoeducational assessments. Her expertise includes areas such as anxiety, grief, behavioural challenges, and life transitions. Her approach is rooted in evidence-based practices and a belief in the importance of creativity, play, and connection in helping children grow and thrive.

As a Francophone, Melanie is dedicated to creating inclusive learning opportunities in both French and English, ensuring that families can access support in the language that best meets their needs.
